ITALY INVENTIONINDEX – MARCH 2025
The Invention Index measures the innovative output of a country or state by comparing GDP growth with patent output growth.
Italy Invention Index, March 2025: 2.09% (Grade B+)
Italy Invention Index over the last year:

Any rating above C indicates positive sentiment; any rating below C indicates a negative outlook/sentiment. By using this sentiment, trends can be observed over time and states/countries can be compared. In this way, we can predict which states have the best chances of economic recovery from the pandemic (or any other economic incident that may occur).
Analysis:
In March, the Italy Invention Index recorded positive sentiment, although lower than the previous year’s average and below the year’s downward trend. This is in contrast to the previous 12 months, which recorded a notable upward trend. As the world continues to recover from the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is unclear whether there is a backlog of applications awaiting approval or if the department has completely caught up. If approvals have not yet caught up, we may see a decrease in them – and a reduction in the Invention Index – in the coming months/years, as the state suffers the full economic impact of business closures and/or their need to reduce staff and, consequently, R&D hours.
