ITALY INVENTIONINDEX – FEBRUARY 2025
The Invention Index measures the innovation output of a country or state by comparing GDP growth with patent output growth.
Italy Invention Index February 2025: 2.27% (Grade A-)
Italy Invention Index over the last year:

Any grade above C indicates positive sentiment; any grade below C indicates a negative outlook/sentiment. Using this sentiment, we can observe trends over time and compare states/countries. This allows us to predict which states have the best chances of economic recovery from the pandemic (or any other economic incident that may occur).
Analysis:
In February, the Italy Invention Index recorded positive sentiment, although lower than the previous year’s average and underperforming the annual growth trend. This is similar to what happened in the previous 12 months, which saw a significant growth trend. As the world continues to recover from the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is unclear if there is a backlog of applications pending approval or if the department has fully caught up. If approvals have not yet recovered, we may see a decrease in them – and a reduction in the Invention Index – in the coming months/years, as the state feels the full economic impact of companies closing and/or being forced to reduce their staff and, consequently, minimize R&D hours.
